Historic Binondo Center of China Bank begins reconstruction

Thursday, April 04, 2019

China Bank officials and the Binondo Heritage Restoration Project Team led by Senior Vice President and Project Committee Chairman Alex C. Escucha (fourth from right, kneeling), Project Manager Architect Balwin A. Aguilar (second from right), and experts from Noche + Architects led by Architect Manuel Noche (third from right) have begun the reconstruction and restoration of the Bank’s Binondo Business Center (seen in background with original masonry exposed), its historic original headquarters built in the 1920s.

Looking on (from left) are Facilities Planning Head Architect Roberto Sanchez, Jr., BBC Cash Operations Head Vicky Chua, BBC Head Jeanette Chan, MM West Region Head Shirley Tan, and Marketing Communications Head Mary Ann R. Ducanes-Reyes (rightmost).

The Binondo Heritage Restoration Project will seek to recapture the original architecture of the center when it was first constructed, which has since been lost to various remodelling efforts after WWII. The building will also be retrofitted to comply with modern safety standards. The project is slated for completion in time for the Bank’s centennial celebration in 2020.
